Chiris, If you turn off the circular logging, make sure you are doing a full backup of your Exchange with and Exchange aware backup software. if not your logs will continue to grow and fill up the hard disk. When the disk runs out of space your Exchange services will stop. Check your disk space to see if you have any disk space issues. If you turn on the circular logging, the logs are overwritten regularly, hence you don't run out of space, but not a recommended approach. Services will not start http://www.MSExchange.org/ Raj, Thanks for the reply. I was doing nothing with the server when it restarted. I have, however fixed the problem. I found Microsoft article Q176239 about the edb.chk file. I disabled circular logging the other day trying to fix a problem with Arcserve backup errors. I ran eseutil /r/ /ds and received an error 1811 Jet_err FileNotFound. The other research that I did reiterated what the MS article said. I took a chance and tried the fix in the article even though it was not recomended with circular logging turned off. I moved the edb.chk file to another location and tried restarting the services, and it worked. It appears that no data was lost. Since turning off circular logging didn't fix my backup error problem, I'm thinking of turning it back on again. Any thoughts on that? Thanks for the help! Services will not start http://www.MSExchange.org/ How did the server crash? Were you trying a restore when it crashed? Give the exact event log error message to analyze more.
