Well, I ended up using the manual remove angle: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=260378 Even then I had to use ADSIedit to get the darn server out of ESM. If that's the case, then it's best to remove it using the setup utility. It's documented how to remove it manually because of situations like this. Usually that error is seen when the IIS, WWWPS, NNTP, SMTP services (or one of) aren't running during setup. I uninstalled Exchange 2000, and received errors when trying to uninstall The Instant Messaging and Chat Components. I receive the message "A problem has been encountered in the MS Exchange Instant Messaging Service Setup Component. Canceling Setup" I have rebooted and tried again. I also stopped all the IIS Admin and Exchange services, to no avail.. I have the Microsoft Article on manually removing exchange, but want to us that as a last resort...
