Sunil, This is what I did when I was in a similar situation. I rebuild the crashed server with the exact same configurations, partitions, patches, software. All installation paths should be same. Then restore your system state. Now your AD is up. Reboot the server and make sure it's functioning. Now after this point, what I did was remove the Exchange schemas from AD. Your AD thinks that it includes an Exchange org. I removed this by doing a command ( I have it in a doc and will email it to you when i find it.) What this command does is removes the Exchange org from AD all the schemas etc. Now when you reboot, your Ad is standalone with no Exchange references. Now at this point, I reinstalled exchange. You don't do a disaster recovery switch, since AD thinks you're building a brand new exchange org. When you install Exchange make sure you choose the same org name, installation path should be same etc. When complete patch the exchange server. Make all the settings as original as possible. Now your exchange is built with blank databases. Your database locations should be in the exact path as before, this also applies to the logs. Now restore the databases from backup. This is what I did and worked for me. ________________________________ From: sunil shah [mailto:sunny@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thu 12/8/2005 8:28 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange recovery http://www.MSExchange.org/ Do I have any other choise??????...Need Help...How do I recover mail and IIS stuff????...Have backup from previous night (thank god for that) and me pushing them to do the backup every night -----Original Message----- From: ChongJa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ChongJa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, December 08, 2005 5:16 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange recovery http://www.MSExchange.org/ I'm almost certain I've seen this before when I was doing disaster recovery on similar to yours one server no systemstate. After everything was done it hung at that stage. I'm almost certain that the issue was because the server was not built with the exact configuration settings and patch level. -----Original Message----- From: sunil shah [mailto:sunny@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, December 08, 2005 4:19 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange recovery http://www.MSExchange.org/ I have to recovery this server and it is the only server I have running everything IIS, DNS, EMAIL(Lesson learn hard way for the client to put all the eggs in one baskets. As I have mentioned I did created new server and restore AD using Veritas Backup exec (Selecting not to replace file if its new). After I restore server came up with lots of error. Then run exchange setup with Disasterrecovery switch and was able to bring IS up. After I restore the Storage Group and reboot the machine now it hangs at Preparing Network Connection...I have waited at least 2 hrs...just incase after restore windows 2000 might be doing sign. Check or something...But no luck....Any Idea...how can I bring my original server back?????? -----Original Message----- From: ChongJa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ChongJa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, December 08, 2005 3:48 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange recovery http://www.MSExchange.org/ Is this your only Exchange server? If so, another option is to rebuild the server without the disaster recovery switch. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Fugatt [mailto:markfu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 7:06 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange recovery http://www.MSExchange.org/ You will need to look in the Exchange Setup Progress log file and see exactly what it is failing on.
