The exchange server normally uses POP3 to collect mail and send out over SMTP both using broadband. Broadband is down and I want to be able to utilise a dial-up modem connection to contact the ISP and collect/send mail. I need to know how Exchange will need to be configured to achieve this. The typical way you'd want to do this is to have the dialee (the client) configure to pick up the mail when they connect since you have no way of knowing what a) IP addr they'll have and b) when they'll be online so you can deliver the messages. If a client app (MUA) then POP/IMAP/OWA are typically how you'd handle that. Since you are asking, I'd suspect that this is server to server and that you'd rather look at something like ATRN or a POP connector to do this (as in SBS version.) My thoughts anyway. We are trying to think of a solution which appears now to be to use an analogue modem (no ISDN available) for the connection to the ISP. Can you advise option/method for me to set the connector up in Exchange ? I guess I'll need to configure RAS before hand.
