Thanks Kim!! I'll look through the logs and try repackaging the job itself. I stopped and restarted the rpc service on the exchange server last night and the job ran ok. Don't know if it was that or the job just decided to run ok??

Denise

http://www.MSExchange.org/

I've been racking my brain to try to remember how we corrected the problem. We had the same issue when we were running 5.5 and upgraded our Arc Serve to 2000. All seemed fine and the backups completed successfully but every day the backup time grew and grew even though the amount of data being backed up stayed relatively the same.

Look at your Arc Serve logs, do you get any warnings that basically are looking for a file not found? In my case I was backing up other servers as well as Exchange and sometimes I will get these warnings and I have to modify and repackage the job. It seems that we had files that were deleted but for some reason Arc Serve spent a lot of time spinning it's wheels not realizing the file was deleted.

Also we've had a problem where the Arc Serve database gets so large it chews up most of the space on the C drive and we have to replace it with an empty database we got from tech support. This is the database that keeps track of all of the sessions and if you go to restore from tape allows you to browse the contents of the tape sessions without actually reading from the tape. After we have replaced a database, if we want to restore something from a tape we have to do a tape merge so Arc Serve will get a list of what is on each session of the tape.

I will see if I kept any of the papers from when we had this problem. I've already gone through old emails and my brain and can't remember the solution (if there was one) Basically what we did was upgrade our Arc Serve prior to an upgrade of Exchange to 2000. I think that once we went to Exchange 2000 the problem stopped.

Kim
