Unfortunately, they won't do that.
 
Even a manual note that says "go here instead" -- that would work too.

Seems to me... a redirect for the obsolete KB number to the consolidated
KB number would solve all problems.

Yes, and a consolidation could be requested. But once they consolidate
an article, they pull the one they decide is a "duplicate" and that can
mess up searches for months (plus invalidate references in magazines and
books and ....). So, we've learned to not do that. We generally just ask
that they refer to each other instead - which these two do.
