Exchange 5.5 domain membership

Hello all,
Is it possible to change the domain membership of an existing Exchange
5.5 server without causing any issues to mail flow? I am sure that I would
have to recreate x400 connectors and Directory replication connectors.
Also, I would have to associate exchange services to a new Exchange service
account on the new domain so that services run correctly.
The server in question is in 'XYZ' domain but homes mailboxes for users in
the '123' domain. This is the only exchange server in their site.... I
would like to change the server's domain membership to '123'. Any ideas?
