-------------------------------------------------------For RSGs it does not do
a loss restore because it will not replay your current logs; it only verifies
and replays logs to make it consistent and current with the last backup. If you
want to restore up to the point of failure say if you were recovering last
nights backup then you will need to copy your current transaction logs into
your RSG directory then do the RSG restore which will then replay during mount.

Anything you do with the RSG is safe you are not affecting production in either
way.

-------------------------------------------------------So please clarify,
should I check the option or not?

-------------------------------------------------------Loss or loss-less
recovery applies to production restores. Since you are restoring to RSG
it does not apply.

Subject: [ExchangeList] Exchange 2003 RSG and Veritas 9.1

http://www.msexchange.org
-------------------------------------------------------We're testing
restoring to a Recovery Storage Group from a Vertias 9.1
backup. We have the following options listed for the restore under the
Exchange 5.5 options:

No loss restore
Commit after restore completes
Mount database after restore

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...
"Mount database after restore" should be unchecked because I want to
mount the database manually (in case there are problems).
"Commit after restore completes" should be checked if the tape is the
last one in the backup set (or the only one).
"No loss restore"... In regard to the RSG, this is the one I'm really
unsure about. The Backup Exec best practices states:

Be aware of the effect of the "No loss restore" setting. Take note that
any transactions which existed in transaction log files left in place
following a "No loss restore" operation will play back when starting or
mounting the Information Store database. Thus, if there are deletions
that occurred after the backup was performed those deletions will play
through and may potentially remove the very data that the restore
process was intended to recover. In this case, either the Exchange data
generated after the backup will need to be discarded by the process of a
"Loss" restore operation OR a second recovery server will be needed to
perform the restore, (unless the Recovery Storage Group feature of
Exchange 2003 is used to perform the data recovery operation).

I can't find anything on the "No loss restore" option as it applies to
the RSG.

Anyone out there have experience with this and care to share?
