Add to that. If you are a mass mailer (not necessarily spam of course) you won't want to use a vbscript as an event synch. The performance is not going to be there. As Mark mentioned, putting it on a gateway server (not the brand, the architecture :) you will get better performance. In fact, off-loading the sending to a separate server would be good for other reasons as well, such as dealing with the NDR's. I would suggest for the address updates, that you investigate updating your send to database vs. stopping it at the gateway. Don't even send it internally if it's not wanted, right? Note: there are some apps out there for this type of work such as boldfish that can do what you want as part of their prodcut. There are others, but this is one such app I know of that specializes in permissions based email systems for marketing purposes. http://www.boldfish.com/ As I recall, they do things like keep track of who requested the email, who asked to be removed, etc. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Fugatt [mailto:mark@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2004 1:26 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange 2000 event sink http://www.MSExchange.org/ If you want the EventSink to add a disclaimer then I would personally recommend looking at a third-party solution, if you have problems with message delivery in the future and call Microsoft for support, the first thing they will have you do is remove the event sink as they are prone to causing problems. First of all to be in accordance with the new anti-spam law. We are trying to develop a webpage that will allow people that have received email from us to unsubscribe from future mailings. We were thinking that this webpage could dump the email addresses received into a database, and the Vbscript would stop any email from being delivered to addresses in this database. Secondly this vb script would add a disclaimer to all outgoing messages, giving people the Opt-out hyperlink which would point to the webpage we are developing. What does this widget need to do for you? One thing to note, if you use a VBSCRIPT synch, you have to be aware of the performance hit associated. Best practice is to use c++ for event synch's wherever possible. However the only Exchange event sink that I am aware of is the "ISMTPOnArrival" sink. However since we use Outlook 2000 & Exchange 2000, messages sent from Outlook are in MAPI format. Is there another sink we could use, that would work for all outgoing messages.
