RE: Exchange 2000 and 2003 in Same Domain

Perhaps I should phrase it as:

"if you move the mailbox using the ADU&C installed upon the Exchange
2003 server:"

"from" the Exchange 2003 server?

I will point out one thing -- if you do the move mailbox from the
Exchange 2003 server:

1) it'll be more resistant to errors, and

2) it'll be faster.

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hi Michael,

Thanks!

I want to leave the first Exchange 2000 Server on the Windows 2000
machine in place; the Exchange 2003 Server on the Windows Server 2003
Server would be the *second* Exchange Server on the network in the same
domain.

I would use the "Exchange Tasks" move mailbox feature on the Exchange
2000 server to move some of the user mailboxes to the second Exchange
Server (which would be running Exchange 2003).

The goal of this exercise is to provide enhanced OWA and OMA support for
the users who's mailboxes I move to the second Exchange Server, since
from what I understand, if I made the new Exchange Server a Front-end
server, I would not benefit from enhanced OWA and OMA support, as these
enhancements are part of the actual message store. At the same time, I
want to leave some mailboxes on the existing Exchange 2000 Server.

Thanks again,

Tom

That doesn't really matter. The answers are: yes, yes, and yes.

If upgrading, then Exchange needs to be upgraded before Windows. If
clean install, Windows needs to be installed before Exchange. :-)

Hey guys,

If I have an existing Exchange 2000 Server installed on a Windows 2000
Active Directory domain controller, can I install an Exchange 2003
Server on a Windows Server 2003 Server in the same domain?

If so, can I move user mailboxes from the Exchange 2000 Server to the
Exchange 2003 Server?

If so, can users who have mailboxes on the Exchange 2003 Server access
the enhanced OWA and OMA services on the Exchange 2003 Server?

Thanks!
