Hi all,

Before anyone says anything, I know this is bad before I even start but
.......

I had Exchange 2000 (SMTP port 1025) being fed by Vpop3 (Standard ports)
until some muppet (apprentice) decided he liked the look of GFI
MailSecurity.
Although I am a fan, he didn't test it and just loaded it on!!

After receiving no mail to the exchange server for a few hours he asked me
why!
I removed GFI and checked every setting I know of (not an expert but
competent) and everything was set back to normal - but still no mail.

Vpop3 is downloading the messages and forwarding them to the exchange server
but they never arrive.
Also, you can't send internal mail - it just doesn't get there, I have a
feeling this may be the key but can't work out why!

I have worked out the following so far.

If you send an email to a non-local recipient it gets sent from Exchange to
Vpop3 for it to send.
Exchange started sending NDR's out saying

Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, because the message
was forwarded more than the maximum allowed times. This could indicate a
mail loop.

So after a bit of advice, I disabled the Pop3 service in Exchange.

I am starting to get desperate now - I'd rather not have to rebuild the
Exchange server

I hope someone has an idea - but if I've missed some details that you need
just let me know.

...Spence

PS - I'm on the lookout for very slow and painful ways of hurting someone -
these are also most welcome!
