Double check your reverse DNS entries. I think as part of AOL's anti-spam
software it needs to make sure that the reverse DNS entries are correct.

Its definitely got to be AOL, I sent a message from a friends account last
night reminding myself to do something from him.. Had I not seen this email
string, I would have totally forgotten that the email never made it to me.

I think it's AOL.  I've had users complaining when sending to AOL and then I

get the AOL user to send to my work account and hotmail account and never 
arrives.
