I am using VMware environment here and we always use basic disk. It gives you great I/O performance .Its complete SAN environment and believe me performance is terrific compared to dynamic disk.
This might help,

Subject: [ExchangeList] Dynamic disks
If you are deploying Exchange on a SAN(Clariion), does it matter if you use Basic or Dynamic disks? Is one better than the other? If so, why?I can't seem to find any info on using dynamic disks with Exchange(except that it won't work for the shared storage on a cluster).Any info would be great. Thanks alot
