Hi Greg,

BTW -- I'm not talking about the reference that John pointed to, I'm
talking about the IT Hero sidebar in the DNS article in this month's
Windows IT Pro magazine.

I agree with John.. They are dirt cheap. ive seen once where a
company used a .com .net for internal and external domains. the problem
was the .net was not registered and then their parent company in the US
went and registered it. Created a few minor hassles at the time.
Personally i don't see the need to keep them the same, I'd always prefer
to keep them separate. I know it can be done easily but there is no real
reason why to or not too as far as I am concerned.

With the fact that you can get a domain registered for cheap,
the best advice is pick an unused domain name for your local network,
register it and use that.

I am setting up a 2003 Exchange server on a domain that has a
.local

I was wondering if I will run into any problems. In the past I
have set up

with the correct dns "domain".com name. Also I plan to implement
rpc over

http will a .local create any issues. There is a existing win2k
server

with exchange 2000. I plan to keep the existing win2k dns server
but remove the

2000 exchange and add a new 2003 server with exchange 2003

        Thanks Jeff
