Offline ---> you shutdown the server services and copy the exchange DB files
out.
Online --> do a backup (e.g. using NT BackUp) to back Exchange Data while
the exchange services are still executing,

Note: your Exchange AV will need to use VSAPI and not MAPI to do it's
scanning for this to work.

They are trying to determine if there are employees that don't access their
mailboxes at all.

As far as I know, read vs. unread is a MAPI property and is only available
per item.

What is it that you are actually trying to accomplish?

Does anyone have info regarding this? We have several people wanting to
investigate if users are actually managing their email.

Thanks.

Is there an easy way without opening every mailbox to get a count on
unopened emails for everyone in a store?

Many thanks in advance
