First thing to do, is check your SMTP logging. Find out what the logfile tells you. If there is anything there and your not sure, sanitise the information and post it here. Secondly, have you tried telnetting from your server to their mailserver? This will verify that SMTP connections from your system to theirs works. This will not take into account any DNS issue's. It might be possible that they have a secondary MX hosted by their upstream ISP in case of downtime. Ive seen ISP's tighten security, and make mistakes, then when DNS refers a mail server to the secondary (for whatever reason) the ISP is actually the one that causes the NDR. Good Luck. But others (from outside of their company) are able to send them mail with no problem. So I think their dns is probably okay. -----Original Message----- From: DÃniz Feital (Chiptek) [mailto:dfeital@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 2:44 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Confusing NDR http://www.MSExchange.org/ May be this is a dns problem. They can reach you (it means your dns server is Ok), but you cant reach them, may be their mx dns name has changed, or are corrupted. Are you able to check those things about dns? Same thing. -----Original Message----- From: DÃniz Feital (Chiptek) [mailto:dfeital@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 2:34 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Confusing NDR http://www.MSExchange.org/ Hello. Just wondering: If you dont try to reply, instead, type the e-mail address, does it go fine? They've been sending to them fine and just a couple of days ago they started getting NDRs when they send to them. I spoke with a tech from that company and he assured me that nothing changed for them and that they receive emails from others just fine. I looked on MS KB and while I did find some articles, none of them were helpful. Below is the message received when we try to send to this company: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Test Sent: 10/16/2002 12:09 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: '______________' on 10/16/2002 12:09 PM The recipient name is not recognized The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= ;p="organization";l="server"-021016160847Z-910 ****************** I can't figure out what happened. I double-checked their email addresses - they were correct. We can receive mail from them without a problem, but if we try to reply we get an NDR. Any help would be appreciated.
