No, because you would set the permission on the Default GAL to a deny for
everyone except the Enterprise Admins.

Hi All

But surely then users could just switch to the default GAL in Outlook and
view the whole Organisation?

Thinking about it two separate Forests with a trust would achieve everything
wouldn't it? Either way the the devices on the spun off company need to be
moved across from one Domain to the other so I see no great loss there?

Bye for now.

Paul.

You can very simple create too Address Lists in Exchange 2000 and assign the
permission to certain groups of users and have the Enterprise Admin have
access to the complete this.

Hi All

I totally agree but that wouldn't achieve his aim of having two separate
GAL's with an overall Enterprise Admin role?

Having said that you may well be able to achieve that by allowing recipient
updates to AD from each Domain but not at Enterprise Level thus each Domain
user would only see GAL users in that Domain. I do not know about the
legitimacy of this though. You have an option to never allow recipient
updates from the Exchange Org to the Enterprise or Domain as well as the
standard always run. Could you also create Recipient updates to each Domain
Separately from each server separately. Having had a quick look in the
Exchange 2000 system Manager this would seem feasible. Could someone confirm
or deny possibly please?

Regards,

Paul Lemonidis.

Doug

Although the SimpleSync option would work, it would be a very expensive
solution, I am a reseller for SimpleSync and have also done many Microsoft
MetaDirectory implementations, as an example SimpleSync with 2 directories
would cost around the $9000 with an extra $1000 for each additional
directory plus consulting time.

It would probably be cheaper to get a Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000
Standard license for each of the additional domains and have them as part of
the existing forest.

Exchange 2000 is not supported on Windows 2003

Subject: [exchangelist] Child domain?

http://www.MSExchange.org/

My organization has to spin off some of our clinics in a few
months; I'd like to run this by you all.

Currently the users there are in our domain, and use our
exchange for mail etc.

Can I buy them a new server with SBS(Small Business Server),
create a new child domain in our existing forest using SBS?

Or maybe a server with Windows Server 2003, promote to a
domain controller in its own child domain, with exchange 2000 standard (I
have an unused license). There are only about 50 users there. I'm looking
for the best solution, and need to plan for it now.
