XP Home edition is not designed to be used in AD. It is not able to join a
domain by design. That is why M$ has two versions, one for home use
(non-networked environment) and XP Pro which is designed for networks. You
user is not connected to the network as you suggested, they are only logging
on to their laptop. The only way that they will be able to get their mail is
through OWA.

Windows XP Home Edition can't log on to an Active Directory Domain (or any
domain, for that matter). Is signing on to the domain a requirement for
getting mail in your environment?

It is inside the firewall. I tested the account in another machine and it
works fine. Outlook cannot download /send mail only from the Windows XP home
Edition Laptop machine...

Vijeya,

What about other users in the network? Are the ports required for POP3/SMTP
open on the perimeter (Firewall) of the network?

Sounds like a DNS configuration issue on his laptop.
