I find that it is not the antivirus issue coz when I stop MTA service and
empty the folder and leave some files which is a must for MTA to run it goes
down to a manageable level but after about 2 weeks it goes back to
overstretch

What was the anti-virus product (vendor)?

Had this problem w/ a client on Exchange 2000. Even when we disabled the
antivirus, it did not go down on the cpu utilization. It was only after
uninstalling and reinstalling the antivirus software that the problem was
resolved. I do not have the exchange folders scanned either.
