I just saw this one.
When you said that you looked at the event logs, were those event logs on the
exchange server or on the backup server or were both the same machine.
When we have seen this it is because either the exchange services stopped or
the windows server rebooted.
When the exchange services had a problem there are normally event records in
the application log. Something like a block of data having a bad crc checksum.
etc.
We have also seen a problem with the hardware causing a system restart. Of
course you will then find an system event record that says something like --
the prior shutdown was not scheduled or clean.

I am running exchange 2000 sp2 on windows 2000 sp2, all has been well but
recently have been getting these errors on veritas backupexec 8.6.
have checked event logs and nuthing in there, also dont think the agent is
playing up as i am backing up other exchange servers ok.
