Most people I know are not blocking .dat files, as they are basically text
files.

In fact, I exclude them from SAV system scans, again, as they are text
files.

Subject: [exchangelist] Attachment blocking

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hello all,

Running Exchange 5.5

I am running GFI Mail Security and have all .dat files blocked. I am
experiencing an issue where valid e-mails from other organizations are being
blocked due to winmail.dat files being attached to their messages. It is
not realistic for me to send them directions to turn off TNEF to prevent the
winmail.dat attachment.

Do most of you block .dat files? If so, how do you overcome this issue
in your organization? I can not whitelist a specific attachment through GFI
so I am stuck.

   Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris Wall
