No Exchange 5.5 ...No need for ADC...
Have Exchange 5.5 in Mixed mode in AD....You must have ADC.

Is it totally required that you install the Active Directory Connector?
Here's the story:
We have a Windows 2000 Active Directory forest in mixed mode. There is
only one domain in the forest. There are 4 sites. Currently, email is
handled by a Unix system, so nobody's user account (there are over 4000
users) in Active Directory has a mailbox yet. Everybody uses POP3
clients against the Unix server for email, which uses a different user
account than the Active Directory user account.
The idea is to install a member server (W2K w/SP3), then install
Exchange 2000 with SP3 on it, and then create mailboxes for everybody.
The question is: what bad things will happen if the Active Directory
Connector is not setup? I mean, it's not like we have to reconcile an
Exchange 5.5 directory with the Active Directory. All of the stuff from
the old mail system has already been exported and formatted into ldif
files and is ready for import (heavy use of a test lab here). All of
the manual labor has already been done. What's so bad about NOT
installing the ADC?
Bottom line:
What functionality will we lose by not using the ADC?
