[ewiki] ordinary version numbers?

I really enjoy the release numbers that ewiki was packaged with
to date, but I've lately thought we should drop it in favour of
something more normal.
While things like "R1.02x" allow conservatively growing version
numbers and look less annoying at first, they are hardly user-
friendly (and that's one of the project goals). So maybe it was
better if from the next major release we use "3.0.0" instead
(= like EVERYONE ELSE does). We were probably at version 2.2.x
right now(?)
The MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH scheme allowed us to introduce stable and
unstable versions as well, and not only made the versions better
to distinguish from each other.
The releases of the past would then be reenumerated for the new
scheme and carry both a release and a version number instead.
Is this a good idea or a non-issue to our users? Opinions please.
