It is intentional that the mailing lists address is not written anywhere.
The list itself is open-post, meaning that one didn't even need to sign
up for writing here. But because that typically leads to lots of spam, I
decided to keep the address somewhat secret.
It is indeed noted somewhere on our site, but not on the MailingList
page, because the email protection plugin doesn't work there (it's a
spages plugin).

Now if it turns out that all makes it really too difficult to find, and the
ecartis
messages are that unhelpful, I probably just disable the registration-free
posting; most people sign up anyhow before writing.

(And that this list has been totally spam free in the past is probably also
more because of a damn good filter running at freelists.org than due to
keeping the address secret [?])

I don't think there are so many more problems with Public Domain than with
the GNU GPL. Actually to put something into the PD under German law, you
must obmit your name (read this somewhere). But then the authors rights and
intends are honored normally, so simply saying "I put this under Public
Domain" even should suffice here.

If we merged a GPL part into ewiki, that would turn our almost complete
PD code into GPL licensed source, just because of the 1% fraction - the
"viral" thing about the GPL (as it's always called). But because ewiki is
one of the very few non-GPL projects, and many people use it simply
because it is Public Domain, I think this is not a good idea.

So if you want to contribute, but fear that your code could be abused, then
please put it under the GNU LGPL ("Lesser GPL" or "Library GPL") instead.
This keeps your code free, while not imposing restrictions onto the rest of
ewiki.

That being said, I already had some conversations about this, and one GPL
script doesn't turn the rest into it for PHP/CGI scripts, because there is no
real "linking" in scripting languages. That's a thing the GPL 3 is going to
address. So right now we _could_ integrate GPL code into our tarball. But
as your intend is to contribute some sort of extension, the best way is
probably to release it as LGPL - if that was ok enough for you?

There are around 30 people on this list. It is not very active, like Andy
said, like the project is not very active currently. Neither is dead, but
the project just became "mature" now, and there haven't been many
questions here lately.

It is a list for general support, help, development, announcements, and
whatnot. So feel completely free to bring some life into it.
