[ewiki] Re: OpenSearch

A9 is probably more interested in scanning with the bigger Wikis only
(WikiPedia has it, MediaWiki not). It doesn't look like it's meant as
decentralized search interface so much, A9 does rather little to
encourage its use elsewhere AFAIK.

Actually it is pretty easy to do, the description format is just
another XML file (thier templates suffice) and the response format
is the RSS 0.91 format - I preferrably call it "RSS-OpenSearch"
therefore and because I once had that pet project also labeled
"OpenSearch" (but using vanilla XML-RPC) - so of course I looked
into it.

I wonder why our search functions can't send RSS yet - other Wikis
had this for longer (e.g. OddMuse). Should however be not all too
complicated to write (since you only need to support one fixed RSS
version; which however is sad now that Atom got finished).

I've been thinking that it would be real neat to have a search for my
wiki as an A9 search column, apparently it takes is an "OpenSearch
Description" (http://opensearch.a9.com/spec/opensearchdescription/1.0/)
and a special xml format for results. Anyone feeling xmlly? Some
starting points at http://a9.com/-/opensearch/newColumn.jsp.
