Hi,
I know that writing is an area that requires a great deal of dedication
on the part of the
students and even more patience on the part of the teachers; but I do have a
question about the
writing portion on both the 4 & 5 point Bagrut exams. Why do the students
have a choice of 6
different topics for the essay exam in Hebrew, but only one topic in
English? I know that they
can be difficult, and independent thought is a lot to expect; yet sometimes
they really don't
have anything to say about a topic. I really think that it is unfair that
they a choice in their
native tongue and only one option in their second (sometimes third)
language.
I also agree that asking the kids to record their answers in on a tape in
English when they
are given "sheatuch" in Hebrew is unreasonable. I don't think that we have
to lower standards,
we just have to give the students the same chance they have in L1.
Best,
Ariella Kopels
