[etni] workbooks for NS 7th graders

So many people asked me for this information - I'm sending it to the list.

people suggested:

1. Prentice Hall Literature Reader's companion - gold
level. All the
levels are about the same, the texts are just
different. You can order> it from Wizkids or JR Books. Richard Steinitz of
Longman and Penguin
markets them.

2. reading comprehension F publ by steck vaughn. If
that 's too easy there's a site with guided reading
pdfs that we've used for diff books i mean literature.
look up glencoe reading and study guide on google

3. the discovering fiction series by cambrdige press is
available from eric cohen, there are two levels and
even though the first might be to easy, the second
requires some level of maturity to deal with the story
content. the big advantage of these books is that a
bright pupil can work easily on their own.

4. There is a lovely series "Prentice Hall Literature - Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes; Reader's Companion", published by Pearson / Prentice Hall. It is available in several levels (copper, bronze, silver, gold). You'll need to figure out what level your student needs. You can purchase it through WizKids books. Their website address is www.wizkids.co.il
By the way, don't give him an Israeli textbook / workbook for English that is designed for 10th or 11th grade. My son's English teachers have always tried to do that and it's a disaster. A 7th grader is not mature enough to relate to the content of a higher level book, even though his English is certainly good enough, technically.

5. Comprehension Plus by Dr. Diane Lapp and D. James Flood- either Level E or F - depending on the kid's level of English. We let our native speakers work in class with these books - they have rich vocabulary, reading skills and writing skills. Each unit has a short story with work connected to it.
