Hi Dan, 

One category of teachers you did not mention are nicknamed "the hots"
(innovators) by Robert Evans in his wonderful book The Human Side of School
Change (1996). These "hots"are usually a minority group in a school faculty
who constantly search for, embrace and welcome change because they foresee
its potential for making teaching and learning an unforgettably positive and
challenging experience. Evans also gives insight as to why teachers resist
the new and unknown. Understanding one's resistance may help some cope
better. 

Another book I recommend is: "What's Worth Fighting for in Your School" by
Fullan and Hargreaves (1996).
