What about vocabulary lists.
They are confining and so on yak yak yak. But when the Dept of Metsav testing
makes the exams, what list are they drawing their vocabulary from? They must
have some kind of list; for they don't want the pupils using dictionaries,eh?
So the words in the test are words they assume the kids should know ( and a few
to guess at).

Dear Amal,
Today’s curriculum (which has been in use since 1998 +-) does NOT have
vocabulary lists – nor does it have grammar lists. This is in order to give the
teachers the freedom they need to teach vocabulary and grammar as it is
relevant for them and their classes. Teaching vocab and gram out of context,
has been proven to be less effective than teaching within the context of the
material you are dealing with. Learning a list of words that have nothing to do
with what you are reading or working with, is difficult to do (we do not
usually remember new words unless we have a reason to use them!) and it seems
sort of a waste, no?
Having said that, all of the major book publishers give vocabulary that is
needed for the work of each unit of work, in their teachers’ books. You did not
explain what you need the lists you are requesting for. IF you are working with
a private student, I would recommend you consult with their teacher, and use
the vocabulary that is related to the unit s/he is learning now in school. On
the other hand, if you are a 6th grade teacher, wanting to prepare your
students for the 7th grade, it is enough to work reinforcing the vocabulary
from the textbooks you have been working with throughout the year. If you
REALLY want to, you can try to contact the school that your elementary students
feed into – find out which textbook they use in the 7th grade, and try to work
on that vocabulary – but be sure NOT to use the texts from that book (next
year’s 7th grade teacher will NOT be happy with THAT!) while finding a way to
put the vocab you are pre-teaching, into a relevant context.
I know I have not given you want you have asked for, but I hope this is of
some help, nevertheless.
Adele

Dear Amal,
Did you get any responses to your mail. If you do I would very much
appreciate it if you forward it to me too. I teach in high school special
education kids and I really would like to see this list.
Thank you
