Etnians!
Today I met with my 12th graders and my 11th graders. They all had
questions regarding the bagrut exam. the discussion in each of the groups was
so different, I felt I had to share it with you!
Some of my hearing impaired 12th graders are weak pupils but very motivated,
who want to take the 4 points even though it might be too much for them. I
"give" a lot of credit to motivation - I've seen amazing things in the past.
the pupils were very apprehensive, should they "risk" it and take the 4 point
exam, if they wait till "Pesach" to decide, then they they miss the opportunity
to divide the exam (Winter, Summer). that's actually quite significant as these
kids get extra time and the 3 point exam is very long when taken all on the
same day. even sitting for the four point exam in "one go" with the extra time
is very long for some of them. of course, as the year progresses they will have
a better idea of whether they can do the four point or not, but they felt that
they have weighty decisions.
on the other hand, with the 11th graders, we discussed progressing "up a
ladder" that was up to them. they're weak too, so they'll start building up the
modules, taking a short test each time. the pupils who are serious will be able
to go on and try to add additional modules. others may repeat modules. the
pupils were really excited about it all - we talked a lot about hard work but
there wasn't the same kind of apprehension.
I'm very excited about the modular aspect, and I think it will be very good for
the many hearing impaired pupils in regular classes as well. with their special
problems it is often difficult to determine which exam they can do.
May this be a great year for us all!
