Re the running commentary on NS teachers for NS students...I think the 
problem goes a little deeper, which is amply demonstrated by the following: 
I took a 2 yr. course at Bar-Ilan on teaching English to LD students. The 
course was in English, for English teachers. The class was made up of new 
teachers, and more experienced teachers, which is fine. But what really 
threw me and still has my mouth hanging open was the group of non-NS 
teachers, of Russian origin, who taught in the school system, but repeatedly 
asked the lecturer to repeat and/or explain her words as they didn't always 
understand. They loved their kids and invested time and effort in their 
teaching, but please!!
And story #2: My son studied Electronics in the college in Ariel, in the 
evening. Most of his teachers, in Hebrew, had very heavy accents, which 
severely limited the students' understanding of difficult technical 
material. And this was material in their mother tongue, not a foreign 
language, which should also be emulated. I hope that these two incidences 
are just flukes. But how do they happen? Our English staff at school has 
very good NS and nonNS teachers and I think we complement each other and 
help each other, because noone is perfect.
