[etni] strange world

Dear All, (and Candy)
I agree with Candy. We are living in a strange world. where the teachers are
blamed for what the children do after school. I also feel that too many
parents tend to let the teachers discipline their kids rather than having
to do it themselves.. We are all aware that conflict is not pleasant so some
parents tend to expect us deal with it.. As a teacher I try to teach my
kids to learn to take responsibility for their successes or failures.., not
their parents , not me.. BUT reality demands us to work together..
This has been our biggest problem with the strike. Two Unions..split , was/
is not a recipe for success. Teachers in both unions feel bad, betrayed and
angry and too often at each other..

All teachers( people) need to earn a decent wage and work under decent
conditions. Elementary schools and High schools may have different needs but
we all have the same vision which is to have our pupils to learn and
become upstanding, caring, responsible citizens of the world.

When I read in the paper that it is important "today "(this week) to resolve
the crisis and get the kids back to school so as not to cause damage to them
for the upcoming Winter Bagrut, I was upset. The damage has already been
done to all of our pupils not only those taking bagrut this winter. And is
Bagrut everything in our education system ????? I teach English. I teach
kids English. And if they pass the bagrut because they learned, great !! I
don't want to think I am in school to get my kids through bagrut regardless
if they know the language.

The pressure being put on those in power to end the strike now before any
damage is caused to our pupils makes me want to cry.. The damage has
been done.. All of our pupils have lost out. It won't be easy for any of us
to return to the classroom . (but we will and we will do it well !!) And
sadly the damage has been done to many teachers too. There are so many bad
feelings between Histadrut and Irgun teachers. Can this rip/tear be
repaired??

Hoping for good news..
