I have just been approached by some organisation claiming to have found my name 
on ETNI, asking me to contact them in order to discover ways of making money. 
Have others on the list had the same experience? If so, is there any way to 
prevent an invasion of privacy resulting from being a member of the list?

Yes, I received this mail, too. I've found that the best way to deal with spam 
is to use the "delete" command. If you're more ambitious than that, many 
servers wish to be notified if you are spammed by one of their customers - they 
usually have a special address for this, although I don't know what it is.
