Dear Etniers:
After experiencing that long Tuesday last week, one of my conclusions 
from the experience is that we indeed require additional sessions on a 
professional as well as practical level in teaching reading 
comprehension as required by the NBA.  (Having already participated in 
an NBA course, but trying to keep up with methods and materials, I  
asked Gail Mann if the online course will include additional, updated 
material that is required in light of the Moed Aleph exam.  This 
certainly would be important as part of the course.) Aliza Levanon 
mentioned this in her memo and I agree completely. 
Additionally, the students who have learning challenges, an example was 
one of whom I tested orally, will have to be prepared using different 
methods.  For this, we will need guidance and preparation.  (This one 
particular student looked at the flow chart and couldn't for the life of 
him understand what they wanted from him.  But, he is able to write a 
logically developed composition and express himself intelligently.)
One other thing that is very important to remember.  In our meetings 
with our supervisor, we were told that NO ONE knew what to expect of the 
new modular exams since no one had ever seen an exam. What should our 
expectations have been?
In light of this fact, we cannot condemn the commercially prepared 
practice books because 'they only came out  a few months before the 
exam' or for 'being easier than the actual exam' since they also had 
only the guidelines of the NBA booklet, etc. on which to base these 
practice books. 
Until we have the New Modular Exam Types as part of our own background 
knowledge, we can only 'guess' as to what will be.  We'll have to wait 
for Moed Bet in order to compare the two tests.
