[etni] Re: proper teaching Re: etni Digest V3 #163

I know a women with a Master's degree who has been a librarian her whole
life, speed reads with complete comprehension, and became the head of the
United States Library Communication Committee. She can't spell worth beans!
Never could. Dyslexia is a real syndrome, and a teacher can waste a lot of
time focusing on it with a particular student. I've noticed my students
improve their spelling and reading skills by writing and re-writing about
things that interest them, including letters to friends and journal writing.
Eventually they start to ask, "How do you spell so-and so?", and over time
they remember and improve.
