Though I think that the internet researched project is a waste of time, I do
prefer projects on the oral test, rather than the old monologue-dialogue
system. I remember from my children and their friends how nightmarish the test
was. It was a gamble to know which topic you'd have to discuss, even for those
who spoke English at home.
I tested hundreds of 4/5 point students in my time according to NBA. Having
the project in the student's hand is a great help. I showed the teachers, and
some students, how they could use it instead of reading from notes. According
to the rubrics, reading from notes is forbidden (lowers the grade,) but
"quoting from the project" when holding it, isn't a problem.
Without a "physical" project and with the cooperation of a "fudging" teacher, a
creative kid can fake a project.
