To ETNI recipients:
What options could one pursue for a 1-2 years experience in ESL Teaching in
Israel, under the following limitations:
I am a native speaker, having:
- no Hebrew ability (other than 'shalom, todah, and hallelujah' and no Jewish
background (that I am aware of), but love Israel, having traveled there twice;
- a non-education Bachelor Degree which included quite a lot of
English-related: Advanced Gramma & Syntax; theater; professional instruction in
singing and vocal production; English history, Journalism, News Reporting,
Broadcast newswriting; etc.;
- a good TEFL/TESL certification, in-class, NOT ONLINE, with 10-hours observed
Field Teaching)
- three years of volunteer teaching, but would need an income for this endeavor;
I would wish not to take some Israeli's job, but I do possess an overriding
ambition/drive/thirst for a living experience in Israel.
Would prefer the Jerusalem area of course, but am very flexible.
Is work in the Palestinian territories the most viable, and quickest way to do
this? (How effectively would that thwart my ability to tour the many sites/be
mobile? Tourism is a major motive for my wanting to be there.) If so, then
which of these are considered the safest for teachers?
I would appreciate your responses -- thank you!
