[etni] Re: mivchan mashveh + strike

Dear Kathi - and all -

This is exactly what I did when I was working for... ooops... Sorry, David,
I know you are trying to keep this list free from "personal attacks" on
schools and school administration. Those interested in knowing the name of
the school can contact me offlist. :)

So, once during the "sanctions" period when the Irgun instructed us not to
submit the matkonot grades, I actually refused to submit them.

At the end of the year I was fired, and I suspect that the real reason -
which, of course, was never mentioned - was my refusal to submit the grades.

Folks, you may be under the impression you are fighting against the
ministry. But the real enemy is much closer: it's your school administration
- the principal; the vice-principal; in many cases the English coordinator,
too. The Ministry may eventually allocate a certain amount of money - but
it's the principal who will decide on how to disburse it. It will be done
fairly, of course - but the fairness will be applied the way the
administration sees fit. Yes, you got it right.

If you want to achieve real improvement, you need more power IN THE SCHOOL.
I can remember how, every time I tried to fight an unjust decision of the
principal or of the coordinator, the rest of the team would start gazing
absent-mindedly the other way leaving me alone to bite the dust. If the
whole English team starts acting together, you can achieve something. Power
is not given - but you can TAKE power if you fight for it.

The Ministry only drafts the guidelines. Principals are in charge of the
implementation of its policies. Until you learn to fight your principals, to
make their lives miserable (which can only be done TOGETHER), they will
always be getting the upper hand, and you will always be getting the shorter
end of the stick.

Resigning together would be the best solution, of course...

Think of that.
