In a 4 point 12th grade -
We have studied a few poems and short stories. we read most of them in
class, and the kids had one quiz and 3 homework assignments to hand in. This
is part of their lit. grade.
Some of them didn't hand in most (or all ) of the assignments, some weren't
in class when we did the quiz (without a good reason), some of them weren't
in class when we read the poems / stories. [Their absences are being handled
by the home room teacher and principal - that isn't the subject of my
question.]
I am giving thse kids a make up assignment, where they will reread (or read
for the first time) the poems and stories, write a short essay comparing
them, and also present it to me oraly. This way they will not have a failing
grade for the literature in the school grade.
QUESTION: What do I do with a non-reading boy who is tested oraly?
He has to do something to get a passing lit. grade. But he can't read the
stories himself. I don't see where I have time to read them to him (or if I
should, when he didn't come to class.)
I remember when my dyslectic daughter was in high school, I spent a lot of
time reading things to her and writing homework she dictated to me. I never
thought of complaning to the school about it. But will parents today do
this? Or get a private teacher to read to him, if they can't?
Any ideas?
thanks,
