[etni] lterature or HOTS

I would like to express my appreciation of the beautiful letter by Esther
Pessin, which appeared in ETNI Digest on March,11. I absolutely agree with what
she says :
"I donâ??t think there is a need for â??namingâ?? or labeling HOTS in
teaching literature. The HOTS should have been explicitly taught in
elementary school, internalized and then applied as a natural part of
any literature discussion in high school."
Although the ultimate goal of teaching literature seems to be encouraging our
students to see literature as part of their lives, both intellectually and
emotionally, great care should be taken not to ruin their perception of
literary art by reducing reading to technical issues.
