Hi all,
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. In my 8th grade gimmel group, "hisardut" is
way higher on the agenda than learning English. Thought I'd share with you some
tried and tested ideas for integrating the show into the classes and getting
some momentary attention.
Materials needed: (a) pictures of the participants (b) endless patience.
Adjectives: Pin the pictures on the board. Pupils describe the participants
(Lia has long blonde hair, Noam is tall, Marina is wearing... etc.)
Professions: Pin the pictures on the board. Teach the professions of the
participants.
Food: Hisardut menu. Name the items that Omer and Vika ate (snake, crab,
termite, stomach juices etc.). Match words to appropriate pictures - if anyone
wants I will be pleased to supply.
Not tried but suggested:
a) 10 things to take with you to a desert island (higher groups can also
explain why).
b) Vacations and travel: Get a map of the world, show where the Dominican
Republic is and tell them they speak Spanish there. Then discuss means of
transport to the Dominican Republic.
c) If you're lucky enough to have got to the past simple: discuss last night's
episode. First, then, after that, finally... (also good for higher groups).
Any more ideas?
Laura
