Hi everyone
New topic! I was just searching for articles on how to deal with the problem of
sex in advertising (or sexual enuendos) for use in my yud aleph class (due to
some real promotions the students wrote to advertise a theater production) and
I came across this terrific site. Lots of COMPLETE lesson plans dealing with
this and related topics (such as "gender stereotypes and body image). It's
called Media Awareness Network - a Canadian site.
The first lesson plan I looked into was 17 pages long so I haven't checked it
out thoroughly yet, but I looked at the other aspects of the site ("about us",
etc.) and it looks good. I think I'm paranoid sometimes...
Anyway, check it out, The material is certainly topical and well planned out.

ps - If anyone has ideas or experience in dealing with the following, I'd
welcome suggestions. Thanks.
I want my lesson to focus on the use of the lowest common denominator to
attract an audience and the possibility that the more women are used as sex
objects in advertising, the more "accepted" the use of women as "objects"
becomes - and with that, more violence towards women. I also would like my
students to see that appealing to one's intelligence and the use of
sophisticated advertising can also be profitable. I'm hope I'm right about
that!
