Subject: Results of moed A and moed B

Went into to school to help out with moed B yesterday and wanted to share with you some comments:

a) I had a look at the results for moed A and was absolutely SHOCKED by the inflated grades for module E. ( I believe someone else has already written about this). They were so high that it was pretty ridiculous. I had suggested to a couple of my 11th grade pupils to do both E and C as they were borderliners and we weren't sure whether to go for 4 or 5 points in 12th grade. Well one got 85 in C and 89 in E, the other got 90 in C and then 91 in E. Needless to say that, apart from the super students who I had given 95-100 in their school grade; EVERYONE got *much* higher exam grades than their school grades (often differences of more than 10 points). The pupils and their parents are all mad at me and it doesn't matter how many times that I explain that their "school grade" is NOT a "magen"! Now my dilemna is this: is this easy E module going to be permanent ?i.e. shall I dumb down the 11th grade students' tests next year so that their school grades are more realistic indicators of how well they are going to do on the E module?

Herein lies the problem with the modular system............

I'd be really grateful for your comments..................

b) I don't know who had the brilliant idea of letting kids register for moed B on the internet without passing the information on to the schools....but what happened at our school was that it meant that many more kids turned up than were expected and we didn't have enough exam papers for everyone. Did this happen at other schools?

Best wishes for a continued great summer vacation and for those of you going to Etai...have fun. Wish I could go but have nobody to look after the kids.
