Without a doubt, Israel's Disengagement Plan is currently a hotly
debated diplomatic initiative. The process is internally controversial
and clouded in polemics; the political, social, and strategic outcomes
- unknown. To all intents and purposes, however, the Plan appears to be
taking shape and going ahead, whatever the questions.

The purpose of this educational series is to help clarify and provide
perspectives on the plan, its stated goals, and the process that is
happening - including how it is perceived by supporters and detractors
alike. The series is edesigned to facilitate the educator, student or
general reader's understanding of the plan's significance, so that he
or she may develop ideas, explore the facts, and address them in
educational terms.

The series is based on a wide range of resources, but is nevertheless
focused. To open the subject and the issues, some initial programming
activities may be used even prior to addressing the background
material, while others introduce or require background reading and
resources specific to the particular assignment.

For educational purposes, we have chosen to address focal issues and
relate primarily to the more substantial Disengagement from Gush Katif,
the northern and central Gaza Strip. Details are also provided for
Disengagement in northern Samaria/West Bank.
