Dear colleagues -
You are cordially invited to visit the newly established worksheet
Center and browse its content. You are also requested to send
in more worksheets.
Several colleagues have expressed their concern about the fact
that the system seems to behave like Big Brother: it logs every
user's logins, the time spent browsing, the IP address from which
the user has arrived, etc. They say it seems like an intrusion of their
privacy.
Before this becomes a big issue, I'd like to say a few words.
1. This website is based on membership access: to become a member
you submit a registration request. This implies you are willing to
share a certain amount of personal information with other members
and of course with the site administration. After all, we want this
project to be really collaborative and would like to keep it to
ourselves :) - no pupils are permitted on the premises. Trespassers w.
2. Naturally, the system logs you in and registers it - but so
does EVERY website you access: it keeps all the data it can
collect - your IP, the type of browser you use, etc. It is just not
explicitly accessible for the user.
3. This website keeps the information it collects strictly
confidential, your personal details will never be shared with any
external body or used for advertizing/commercial purposes.
The only person who has unlimited access to this info is yours
truly; but as most of you know me as a fairly honest crook,
you probably realize I will not be abusing this highly sensitive
information. (Actually, I *might* consider selling it for a million
dollars - but so far no foreign intelligence service has contacted
me to offer such deal. I can't help wondering what keeps them so long.)
4. If the above has not convinced you, then I can only advise you
to stay away from the worksheet center: there's no way for us to
disable the login tracking utility. If, on the contrary, you realize
that it's fairly safe (which it is) - keep visiting, bring friends and
colleagues, enjoy the wealth of resources posted and of course
share whatever worksheets you have.
If you have an idea that would enable us to open a new
section (beyond the existing ones - elementary, junior high
and high school) - please write. You will get a chance to
become a moderator of such section and post more stuff
that can be used by the community members.
Digitally yours -
