Subject: thoughts about our tragic reality

Dear Etniers,

It is hard to sit silent in these days of turmoil. Only a few
days ago I attended the conference in Jerusalem and had my
spirits lifted and thought that I was begining my relaxing
summer vacation. In my workshop I talked about how to deal with
obstacles in the classroom. I suggested being positive, looking
for the good etc.. Now only days later. I sit in my house above
the Kinneret which I once thought of as safe from Katuyshot and
wonder what has gone wrong. We as a nation are facing an obstacle
which can't be solved in my simplistic way. I am crushed.

It is the summer vacation and we should all be relaxing . Everyone
of us needs to rest after a difficult year . Both teachers and
students need a quiet time to wind down. But we are being once
again made aware of our tragic Israeli reality which is that
we must continue our struggle to exist.

I sit and wonder why there is so much hate in the world. I sit
and wonder why we must keep sending our children, our students
off to fight. I realize why sometimes it is hard for me to be
strict with my students. Especially the closer they get to the
end of their High school years. For an uncertain future awaits
them. How can I be angry with them for not doing their homework
and going to a party instead. They know what I don't. Or what I
don't want to think about. They know that maybe the future won't
allow them to have fun.

So another war, dashes my hopes for a quiet relaxing summer.
A war where both sides lose and where too many families are made
to suffer . Is there anything we can do?? Any way we can make
peace last. ?? Can any words change the situation? I have only
prayers. small wishes.. that the world will see our anguish and
hear our pain.

I hope for all of us, teachers, students, and our families..
that there will be an end to this horrible , situation. An end
to rockets falling unexpectedly anywhere in Israel. An end to
living in fear. An end to terror.

I pray for the return of the soldiers and end to the loss of life.

Wishing us all- from the North to the South..quieter nights and
more peaceful days.. Wishing us peace.

Aviva
