Before I begin, I want to apologize for writing anonymously. In doing so,
it's not my own identity that I am protecting, but rather that of the people
I am referring to. I don't wish to publicly humiliate anyone.
Like most other Irgun teachers, I went back to work today. Imagine my
surprise when I discovered that despite the explicit instructions of
Histadrut Hamorim, Histadrut teachers in my school had subbed for Irgun
teachers in certain classes. This included one of my own classes. While I
was striking to improve both my own working conditions and also the
environment in which my students learn, another teacher on the English staff
was teaching my students English.
It's bad enough that we were striking alone. Breaking a strike that will
ultimately bring YOU better working conditions, as well, is just a downright
disgusting thing to do, in my opinion. Shame on any teacher who would do
such a thing, no matter how much pressure they were under.
