i just wanted to say i agree with the reading programs, and i also apply the reading-in-class method. i, too, would love to trash the book report system, although oral or artistic presentations about the books are accepted and fun for my classes. 
But, yes, how DO we grade them if we dump the older methods??
Are we able to make our own grading system for that? What would we base it on??
