Subject: prophesizing grades...

HI..all, I don't want to comment on if the bagrut was too easy
or too hard
Why.?? But I do want to comment on the way we all agonize over coming up
with a tzion shnati/magen / ?? or whatever the correct terminology is today.
WHY should we try to predict this kids grades??? We should give them
what they deserve based on all the criteria we get from the Ministry. Right..??

In the past this 'magen' grade was for ONE test. We didn't know if they
kids failed one part.WE didin't know anything but their final grade...
BUT today as the teachers have all said, a student can fail one exam (or
actually even two) and still pass the exam (especially with a good ORAL
grade) ..

Nowadays making up the 'magen' is a nightmare. Because if we give them
what they deserve for their work all year or semester.. we are likely to come
up with a discrepancy. I know. On the first module G I gave a group of kids
very high scores for their "magen" .. AND to this day I stand behind their
grades. The kids worked very hard. They did things above and beyond other
5 points classes. AND then the module G was horrible and my kids all got
much lower grades and there was a discrepancy. Their 'magen' was thrown
out and I had to appeal to get it back to 30%.. In the end everyone did moed B
and raised their grade BUT still..

Why does this happen?? We shouldn't be giving them the magen based on our
powers of prophecy !!! WE shouldn't be giving them a 'magen' bsed on
ONLY mock exams. Why in the past was a discrepancy based on ONE 3 or 3 and
half hour exam??

Lot's of whys... Probably not too many answers.. (or logical ones) if any
 at all..

And last in response to being able to get through to the " testing
department' on the day of the bagrut., well I was able to talk to them (even
twice) because of not getting any version A exams and the second time
around I would have preferred not to. Such indifference !!!
