Subject: projects deja vu
I see that the complaints about unrealistic expectations concerning
projects are being voiced again. English is a foreign language in Israel.
Learning how to write a "term paper," as we called it in high school
40 years ago, is the responsibility of the native tongue education, not
us English Teachers. It's frustrating for us and the students when we
expect them to have skills they are lacking.
We must put pressure on the people making up the Hebrew curriculum
to teach outlining, composition and summarizing by junior high!
High school is late. Then if the kids have mastered it in Hebrew,
we can do much less ambitious "projects."
